Toradol use for fractures

I'm a new medic and my trainer had a patient with an open wrist fracture who chose Toradol over ketamine or fentanyl. Our supervisor said it shouldn't be used due to bleeding risk. I haven't found much online, has anyone else heard of this or seen it in protocols? and just to clarify is Toradol a narcotic?

It's standard procedure and the supervisor was on point with this. With open wounds, ketamine and fentanyl are always ahead of everything else, unless you're in some specific situations, which most people almost never come across. And no, Toradol isn't a narcotic, it's nsaid.

Got it, that helps a lot. I wasn't sure where Toradol stood in trauma cases like this. I'll keep ketamine and fentanyl in mind first for open injuries going forward

Toradol is definitely not a narcotic, it's an NSAID. It really depends on your local guidelines, but generally, opioids or ketamine are preferred for open fractures cause toradol is a blood thinner

Yeah I'll be more cautious with Toradol in trauma cases, it's easy to overlook how something common like an NSAID can complicate bleeding risk in the field
